Colugos are sometimes called flying lemurs, even though they don’t fly and aren’t lemurs. The two species of colugos are the only living members of an order of mammals called Dermoptera, which comes from the Greek words for “skin” and “wing.”

They live in the forests of a number of countries in Southeast Asia. They hide in tree holes and patches of dense foliage during the day, and emerge at night to eat the soft parts of plants, like young leaves and flowers. They rarely, if ever, come down from the trees – to move between them, they glide, instead.
