Noctilio leporinus, the greater bulldog or fisherman bat, lives throughout Central and South America. They roost in trees, caves, sea caves, and just about any other shelter they can find, usually near water. They weigh between 50 and 90 grams, and have a wingspan of about 50 centimeters.
Like many bats, greater bulldog bats eat insects that they catch in the air. But unlike most bats, they also hunt fish. Insects still make up the majority of their diet, but they also consistently eat fish all year, especially during the dry season, and they’ll often ignore other available prey in favor of fish.
